Civic Complex Awarded 2010 “Project of the Year” by Urban Land Institute
(Friday, August 27, 2010) West Palm Beach’s City Center and Waterfront project, which includes the new Public Library and City Hall, took top honors at the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Annual Vision Awards banquet. The civic complex and waterfront redevelopment were awarded 2010 Public Sector “Project of the Year” for the ULI Southeast Florida/Caribbean Region.
“This is a tremendous honor for these public projects,” said Mayor Lois J. Frankel. “City Center and the waterfront continue to bring thousands of visitors a day to our City and our downtown, and we thank the Urban Land Institute for recognizing their importance and success.”
City Center houses the West Palm Beach Public Library, which is on pace to have more than one million visitors in 2010. The civic complex is also home to City Hall and the Palm Beach Photographic Centre.
Stretching nearly a full mile along the intracoastal waterway, the revitalized Waterfront includes three free public docks, the environmentally-friendly Lake Pavilion, stunning water features, versatile open space and a walking path lined with lush landscaping.
The Urban Land Institute is a nonprofit research and education organization supported by its 30,000 members worldwide. The ULI facilitates the open exchange of ideas, information and experience among industry leaders and policy makers.
